Hey everyone, my name is Kirk. Welcome to my site about preparing your collector car for a climate controlled storage unit. After completing my first collector car rebuild, I was worried about weathering and pest damage, as those are common problems in my area. I did not want the snow, rain and sunlight to wreak havoc on the interior or exterior surfaces. I was also concerned about rats running through the engine bay and chewing up the wires. Placing the vehicle in storage was the best way to prevent these problems. My site will cover all of the tasks you need to complete before placing your car in a protective storage unit.

Whether it's been years since you last moved or you feel like you're an old pro at it, there are always things that you can do to make the process easier and more efficient. Unfortunately, it's easy to overlook some of the finer details in the midst of all of the confusion and chaos of the relocation. When you're booking your movers for your upcoming relocation, here are a few things you should keep in mind.
Know What Goes Where
One of the most effective ways to simplify your move is to ensure that all of your boxes are clearly labeled so that the movers know exactly where they need to go. This saves you from having to haul them from room to room later, and it allows them to put boxes down with minimal direction from you.
As you pack, come up with a numbering system for your boxes. Then, create an inventory of what is in each box, labeling each box with the number that corresponds with the inventory list you created. Put the room in big letters on the box so that the movers will know which room it needs to be placed in at the new house.
Empty the Dressers
It's tempting to leave all of the clothes and stuff in the dresser drawers to save you time in packing. Unfortunately, when you do that, you're putting added stress on the frame of the dresser in the way of the extra weight when it's lifted. That weight will push down on the dresser frame.
In addition, the drawers can slide out, potentially falling and breaking. Not only will that damage the drawer, it could also lead to a huge mess that's time consuming to clean up. Take time to pack up all of the stuff in the drawers, then remove the drawers from the dresser so that they can be moved separately. This will ensure that everything is moved safely and doesn't cause more work or excess struggle for the movers.
Clear a Parking Space for the Truck
Especially when you book a moving company, it's easy to forget about the fact that the truck is going to need somewhere to park. Talk with the city planner or your neighborhood's homeowner's association before your move about how to block off space for the truck to park, then make sure you do it the day before the truck is due to arrive. That way, the movers have somewhere to park for easy loading.
You'll also want to do the same at the new place. Planning ahead will help ensure that you have efficient unloading as well. After all, if the movers have to park down the block and transport things by foot, it's going to take longer and require more effort, which may end up costing you more. Not to mention, if the moving company parks where you tell them to and they get a parking ticket, that could cost you as well. Save yourself a lot of money and aggravation by addressing the parking situation beforehand.
Ask About Reserving an Elevator
If you live in an apartment building, the movers may have to use the elevator to move things. If you don't reserve one of the elevators (even if it's the service elevator), you'll face elevator trips where the movers may not even be able to fit into the elevator with other passengers. You can avoid this by talking with your building manager about blocking off the use of one elevator for your movers so that they are able to transport things easily.
With tips like these, you can avoid some of the most common reasons for move delays and struggles. Talk with local moving services about other tips for your upcoming relocation.
